Who is Éco Entreprises Québec?

Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), a private non-profit organization, has represented since 2005 producers who put on the market containers, packaging and printed paper regarding their financial responsibilities for curbside recycling.

Designated as Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) in 2022, ÉEQ manages the curbside recycling system in Quebec from a sustainable development perspective.

As a leader in extended producer responsibility (EPR), ÉEQ develops, manages and provides circular economy solutions to its member producers so they can reduce their environmental footprint. ÉEQ places eco-design, recyclability and traceability at the core of all actions with its partners.

ÉEQ will continue its role as the organization managing producers’ financial responsibilities in the compensation plan throughout the transition period to EPR.

Modernisation of curbside recycling

Curbside recycling is in the midst of a transition towards a modernization based on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), as Designated Management Organization (DMO), is now in charge of managing curbside recycling. In this capacity, ÉEQ is steering the modernization process with responsibility, fairness and vigilance. The modernization is the result of more than a decade of reflection and studies co-created with the Quebec government. Through the DMO, producers will now have full control over the system, making them responsible for developing, implementing and financing it. They will therefore own the material, be encouraged to integrate eco-design into their business model, and become accountable for the system's performance.

Producer membership

As stipulated in the Regulation, every producer is legally required to become a member of the DMO, and must therefore subscribe to a membership contract, as well as general conditions and policies. This contract formalizes the mutual responsibilities and commitments of the DMO and producers. For simplicity's sake, membership is mandatory via the 2023 report. If you have already become a member when submitting this report, you will simply have to accept the policy updates relating to the membership contract when in the 2024 report.
